What options do you need when buying a Separ Filter?

We break down all the options possible for the Separ Filter SWK-2000 Series. The fuel water separators have versions suitable for marine, agricultural, construction, and power generation applications.

Single Filter Vs. Duplex Filter

For marine applications, we highly advise installing duplex filters, especially when a vessel is fitted with only one propulsion engine. Duplex filters have a primary and back-up filter. When the primary filter requires maintenance, the user can manually switch to the back-up filter without having to stop the engine. The user can then service the filter at a more convenient time and eliminate downtime.

Clear Bowl Vs. Metal Bowl

The advantage of a clear bowl is that you can monitor the water level and the degree of collected contamination without sensors. For marine applications, the clear bowl must also be equipped with a metal heat deflector for safety and protection purposes. The clear bowl is only offered in the 3 smallest model sizes:
SWK-2000/5
SWK-200/5/50
SWK-2000/10
Metal bowls are designed for harsher environments and is resistant to a broader range of temperatures. All model sizes can be available with metal bowls. Metal bowls should be purchased with water contacts.

Water Contacts
Water contacts on the bowl.
Connect a remote audio or visual alarm of your choice to the bowl's water contacts. When the water level in the bowl has reached these sensors, the alarm can alert the user when the bowl must be drained. It is highly recommended to purchase metal bowls with water contacts.

Vacuum Gauge
SWK-2000/10D-G
The gauge indicates the differential vacuum in the filter and is installed on the filter lid. It is a key indicator to determine when the element is clogged. Use this as a tool to help determine when backflushing or element replacement will be required.

Separ Filter SWK-2000 Series

The maximum flow capacity of the filter must be equal or higher than the flow rate of the engine-mounted fuel lift pump. It is very important not to go by the burn rate. Verify the specification with your engine manufacturer or dealer.

For instance, if the maximum flow rate of the fuel lift pump is 120 gallons per hour, the corresponding filter model is SWK-2000/10 (which has a maximum flow capacity of 158 gallons per hour).

SWK-2000/10 on Heavy Equipment

With a flow rate of 158 gallons per hour, the SWK-2000/10 is also compatible for heavy equipment, in addition to marine vessels and agricultural machinery . It is installed here on a CAT loader and Komatsu PC 300 excavator. An improvement to this installation is to include the vacuum gauge, which can be equipped on filter lid already at time of purchase. The vacuum gauge is a useful indication of upcoming maintenance and filter element replacement.
